To ensure the quality of our treatments, we meet regularly to critically review our videotaped sessions for the benefit of our patients. Years of training with the best experts in our field and the findings of psychotherapy research have taught us that the art of psychotherapy requires precise, honest and collegial review of what is actually done in the therapy room. We therapists are also subject to our unconscious mechanisms and sometimes tend to evaluate our work better than colleagues would. An important part of our supervision is an equally benevolent, yet appropriately critical look at our own shadows, which we sometimes unconsciously hide from ourselves.Without a video-based observer view, there is a certain danger of indulging in one's own errors and illusions. Working precisely, compassionately and collaboratively, we can provide the best possible treatment to our patients.

Affect- (and therefore Attachment-) focused therapists follow an evidence based, cross-school, transdiagnostic and interdisciplinary model of deep transformative change called “Atem”, which means "breath" in German. The first felt need we follow when we come into the world is inhale and the last is exhale. In between, we live our lives with each breath. In mindful affect-focused practices we pay attention again and again to breathing and the somatic pathways of affects and impulses with its vitalizing and regulating function. They work very precisely, empathically and sincerely in the safe, supportive therapeutic alliance and use the obviously told, but above all the non-verbal body signals to get to the depth of the experience and to the hidden resources.
In practice as well as in research, our focus is on an individualized need- and thus affect-focused therapy, which also includes the direct individual relationship formation (that creates explicit and implicit transference phenomena we should become aware of) in the here and now of the therapy session.
It is the primary affects that become palpable and urgently experienced by us as soon as our survival needs are frustrated or strive for fulfillment. We do not experience needs, motives or values directly, but tangibly as significant via corresponding affective processes. Asking a therapist for help and engaging in emotional work involves complex feelings that can take us into past attachment ruptures, and right here, allow for corrective experiences in the here and now.
We support an authentic and deeply compassionate process of change at the highest level of competence. We all are certified therapists with many years of experience, trained in Emotion- and Affectfocused therapies, also in integrative Cognitive Behavioral Therapies focusing on Emotionregulation, like DBT, Schematherapy or ACT by their founders. We have completed years of training and certification with many experts from different schools (CBT, Systemic, Humanistic, Psychodynamic), allowing us to offer cross-school treatment that is fundamentally based on the latest findings in neuroscience, attachment and behavioral research.
